Rockdale Beef sale decision looms

A decision is expected this month on whether the proposed sale of Rockdale Beef near Yanco can proceed or if it will reduce competition.

Rockdale's Japanese owners want to sell the big feedlot and abattoir near Yanco to Swift Australia, a subsidiary of JBS of Brazil.

Submissions closed yesterday on a statement of issues released by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission last month.

A spokeswoman for the commission says an announcement on their investigation into the sale is due on July the 22.

Rockdale has previously tried to reassure residents the sale would secure future jobs in the abattoir and lead to increased throughput at the 50,000 head of cattle feedlot.
